Day 210, Year 9: Crazy Day
Date: Monday, May 19, 2014
Weather: Sunny Morning, Partly Cloudy with Sprinkles in the PM
Location: Quissett Harbor, Falmouth, Massachusetts

This was a bit of a crazy day, or at least that was the case for me. I took Mark into work at 7:30 am and then came back home to get ready for my day. I had intentionally scheduled three different annual medical appointments on the same day. There was plenty of time between each one, but the dentist, the imaging center, and the primary care physician were all running late. It wasn’t the relaxed pace I was anticipating, but at least I got most of my annual appointments over with in one day. And I ran a few errands in between the visits. So far, so good. After the last appointment I had only an hour and a half until it was time to pick Mark up at 4:30 pm. If I went home to Windbird, I would have had less than hour until I had to turn around and go back into town. So I decided to go clothes shopping—something I almost never do. I’ve had a gift certificate that Heather and Jed gave me for my birthday that has been burning a hole in my pocket, so I went for it. But this is when the crazies set in. I did some successful shopping, stopped at the Post Office to mail some packages to Justin and Jo, and got to West Marine to pick up Mark a few minutes late. But he was even later getting out of work and didn’t even notice that I wasn’t there on time. We headed to Quissett and when we got there, Mark took time to go talk to the “powers that be” to see if we chose the correct mooring when we came in on Saturday. Well, it is the correct one for now, but we might have to move later. We also found out that there will be water, but not until the line is run out to the dock which might be later than sooner. By the time we got out to Windbird it was almost 5:30 pm and time to start dinner. I got things started and then called Heather to find out the starting time of a meeting that I had promised to attend with her. Surprise! The meeting was at 6 pm, only 15 minutes away. So it was back in the dinghy, back to shore, and back to town. The meeting was about the possible restructuring of the schools here in Falmouth. I was amazed at how much things have changed in the world of education in the past ten years and was glad I attended the meeting just to remind me that learning never stops. After the meeting, I hurried back to Quissett. As I was driving the dinghy out to the boat, I got a phone call. I could see Mark standing on Windbird’s deck and thought maybe he was calling, so I tried to get my phone out of my pocket. Somehow in doing so, I did a 360 in the dinghy and felt like I almost turned it over. The phone call was not from Mark, but from Helaine Kanegsberg. I didn’t tell her about my crazy 360, but instead told her I would call her back. My little stunt left me a bit shaken, but when I got back to Windbird I called Helaine and we had a wonderful chat. Now it was getting late and we still had no dinner. I scrapped the original dinner plans and went for left overs, but then my niece called and we talked for a bit. I think it was after 9 pm when we finally ate, but that was fine with Mark as he had used the time to do some work on his newest consulting job. So all is well. It just wasn’t the relaxed day with an early dinner that I had planned.
