Day 14, Year 9: AM with Grandkids, PM with Friends
Date: Sunday, November 3, 2013
Weather: Windy and Chiiiillllllyyyy
Location: Brewer Fiddler’s Cove Marina, North Falmouth, Massachusetts
The north winds are blowing and it feels downright cold, so I guess it is time to dig out a winter coat or put on more layers. By mid-week it will moderate some, but it looks like we are now into days in the 50’s and nights in the 30’s for the next week or so. The boat is cozy inside, so that is no problem. It is just going outside that is the challenge!
As anticipated, Sam was up at the crack of dawn. But he has learned to lie quietly until he is ‘invited’ to get up—at least that is true when he is on the boat. I heard him coughing around 6:30 am, and when I went in to check to see if he was ready to get up, he said he would stay in bed a bit longer. But sometime before 7 am I heard him talking softly to Jonah, so I figured it was time to get up. We played inside and the boys went outside with Mark for a short time to do some work on deck. But before we knew it, it was noon and time for lunch. We needed to get Jonah into town by 12:45 for a play date with his friend Luke. We arrived ten minutes late at what we thought was 12:55, but no one was at the appointed meeting place. We waited a few minutes before calling Heather and Jed to see if they were on the way. That is when we learned that we had gone by the one clock on the boat that we hadn’t changed last night and we were an hour early. Hopefully we are now fully on Eastern Standard Time. We took Sam and Jonah home, and then we headed to Quissett Harbor to pick up Chris and Geoff for a food shopping spree. We picked them up, drove to Woods Hole to try and find a sweatshirt Jonah left on the playground there yesterday. The sweatshirt was still hanging off the end of picnic table, so that was good. Then we drove into Falmouth to do the food shopping. Afterwards we drove Chris and Geoff back to Quissett to unload the groceries and then back to Windbird for dinner. While I finished getting dinner ready, Geoff worked with Mark to get the Max Sea navigation program working on Mark’s computer—success. And he copied a winter’s worth of movies onto our external hard-drive. Thank you, Geoff!!!
Tomorrow we are taking the morning and early afternoon off to do just nothing. Mark has a blood test mid-afternoon at the hematology center where he will start receiving his chemo infusions this Wednesday. After that, we will go to Quissett Harbor to have dinner aboard Shambala.

If my father were still living today, he would be 110. I always think of my deceased parents on their birthdays and thank them for giving me the gift of life. So thank you, Hayes Winfred Martin. And happy birthday.
