Day 84, Year 8: Afternoon at Grande Dunes
Date: Saturday, January 26, 2013
Weather: Sunny with High in the 50’s F-Getting Back to Normal
Location: Lightkeepers Marina in Coquina Harbor, Little River, SC
Today turned out to be a lovely day. It is still a bit on the cool side, but that sunshine sure makes everything feel so much warmer. We were sorry that we didn’t have more faith in the weather forecast. If we had, I think we would have planned to take the boat to the Power and Sail Squadron luncheon today. But by the time we got up and saw the beautiful sunshine, it was too late to change plans. We wouldn’t have made it there in time. So we went ahead with plans to meet Judy and Brian Thompson here at the marina and drive to the Marina Inn at Grande Dunes on the Intracoastal Waterway in Myrtle Beach. The luncheon was in the WaterScapes restaurant and it was very nice. We still don’t know many of the members very well other than Brian and Judy and Lynda and Lee, but with each event we will get to know folks better. It was a nice change of pace, a break from computer and phone work, but we’ll get back to that tomorrow.
We got an email sent to our website last night from a friend back in Concord, New Hampshire. I was the first grade teacher for all three of Marte Rings children, and she wrote to tell me that the oldest is now a middle school math teacher and is married. The other two are still in college and doing well, all good news. Thanks, Marte, for sending us the update. And like you, I am bursting with pride that Sean is now an educator and is married. They do grow up! We also got a call from good friends Ed and Lynne Kirwin last night telling us that they were going to head to the Bahamas today. We heard from Dominique and Dominique of KEA earlier in the week that they had made it to Nassau to check into the Bahamas and were ready to start cruising. We are sure going to miss seeing them there. And we also heard from Heather and Jon Turgeon yesterday. They are our young sailing friends that are currently sailing around the world. They left today on a two-month land trek in New Zealand. So we are going to live vicariously through the travels of our friends for a bit.
