Day 77, Year 8: Too Many Choices
Date: Saturday, January 19, 2013
Weather: Mostly Sunny and Warm
Location: Lightkeepers Marina in Coquina Harbor, Little River, SC
It was a productive day. First thing this morning I cut Mark’s hair. Then I got back to work editing and naming photos from Year 1 of our Voyage. So far I’ve only made it to the Chesapeake Bay, so I have quite a ways to go. But I am making progress. We took time out to go over to see the work Brian Thompson is doing on a condo he brought and is remodeling for resale. He already has a buyer, so he just has to finish the job. While there he showed us another condo that is in foreclosure and will be on the market soon. It was the perfect place for Mark and I. It has two bedrooms and is all on one floor. The sunrooms overlook the entrance to Mariner’s Point from the Intracoastal Waterway and there is a boat slip right out front. You have to purchase the slips separately, but how convenient that would be. But even though it is perfect, we are not in the market right now. We are not yet ready to abandon Windbird. But it was fun to look.
In the afternoon we took another long walk around the harbor and then came back to bang our heads against the wall while searching online for a computer. Lynda and Lee called and invited to come along with them to see a late afternoon movie, but we opted out. We are already going to see one movie with Patsy and Joe this week and that over-extends our entertainment budget. So we just stayed home and searched for a computer. We just finished that process. It took us about seven hours and all I can say is that there are just too many choices. We had set parameters and it was very difficult to find something that met our demands and was within our price range. But we did it. We ended up buying another Toshiba and this new one will be for me. Mark’s old Acer has become so slow that he can hardly get anything accomplished. So he will get the Toshiba he got me for Christmas last year and I will get the new as it is smaller and better suited to being used in the cockpit-my preferred place to write. So we did get the task accomplished despite the many, many choices out there.
Tomorrow we will work here until late afternoon and then we will head to Patsy and Joe’s to watch the Patriots in the play-off for the Super Bowl. In the morning we will talk with Heather, Jed, and boys to see how Sam’s birthday party went today. The party was centered around space travel. I called it his ‘astronautical’ birthday party and we are excited to hear how things went. Heather called while we were on our walk this afternoon asking which package we had sent for Sam contained the shirt and tie he had told me he wanted for his birthday. He wanted to dress up for the party and Heather knew we were sending the shirt and tie. We also sent a tie for Jonah and we can’t wait to see photos. I’m still having a very hard time believing that Sam is really six years old, but indeed he will be on Monday.
