Day 75, Year 8: Summer Today-Winter Tonight
Date: Thursday, January 17, 2013
Weather: Beautiful Day, High Temp in the 70’s F; Rain and Wind in the Evening
Location: Lightkeepers Marina in Coquina Harbor, Little River, SC

It was a beautiful day–warm enough to wear shorts and a tank top. So I did. I started the day doing laundry. By the time that was finished, I realized that it was just too beautiful to sit inside. So I washed down the cabin top and the cushions from the cockpit. These jobs gave me a good excuse to be outside. Mark ran a few errands and then came back and helped Lee install the rubber dock guard Lynda gave him for Christmas. After lunch, we dedicated an hour to ‘work’-Mark’s consulting, my transfer of Year 2 logs into Word format-and then Mark and I took a nice long walk around the harbor. The sun was still shining and the temperature was near 80 degrees. When we came back to the boat, I noticed that the wind was picking up, so I brought the cushions I had washed earlier in the day back into the cockpit. I then attacked those Year 2 logs with a vengeance and finished the job. Hurray! Mark went to a nearby used car lot to ask about car registration and found out that we might not be able to buy a car here. Our lifestyle has caught up with us. We own no land and only have marina slip rental contracts as proof of residence. For voting purposes, we are still officially New Hampshire residents until we rent or own property somewhere else, so we have kept our driver’s licenses in that state. We have lived in Massachusetts since returning from our circumnavigation, but we don’t have a legal residence there. We can buy a car here, but to get it registered Mark was told that we have to have a driver’s license in the state of registry. And we can’t get a driver’s license without proof of residence. We think our only hope is to see if we can buy the car here and register it in New Hampshire. What a hassle.

As the sun went down this evening, the wind picked up even more and the rain came down. The forecast on Weather Underground calls for a low temp around 32 degrees F tonight with a chance of SNOW. Oh, no. Hopefully it will just keep raining, but it is going to be considerably cooler tomorrow and for the next week. So it is back to long pants and long sleeved shirts. I was loving that summer attire. It has been so warm for over a week now that there is a fear that tree blossoms will be damaged by the freezing temperatures tonight and tomorrow night. Just like us, the poor trees don’t know if it is summer or winter.
