Day 70, Year 8: North Strand Sail and Power Squadron
Date: Saturday, January 12, 2013
Weather: Sunny Day, High Temp 76 degrees F
Location: Lightkeepers Marina in Coquina Harbor, Little River, SC

It is way too warm to really be January. The weather info tells us it was in the 50’s on the Cape today and it was in the mid-70’s here. It felt like summer, but we know that it is short-lived. The temp here will dip back into the 50’s by Wednesday and things will be back to normal. In the meantime, we will enjoy the heat.

Tonight we went to the North Stand Sail and Power Squadron meeting as guests of Lynda and Lee Kaufman. We spoke to this group in June of 2011 when we first arrived in this country after our circumnavigation. Then we went with Lee and Lynda to the December Christmas party just after arriving this year. Tonight we won the 50-50 Raffle and were all of a sudden $80 richer. So we turned around and joined the club using the money we won. We are now official Sail and Power Squadron members. Tonight’s meeting was centered around a Chili Cook-off. We each got to taste each of the entries. We then voted by secret ballot for our favorite and had a bowl of that for dinner. Lynda’s won the second place for the second year in a row and I voted for the winning chili. It was entry #4, my lucky number, and it was delicious.

Mark and I are looking forward to a long walk on the beach tomorrow. We have lots of work to do, but we just can’t ignore the beautiful weather altogether. So we’ll take a mid-day break and head for the beach.
