Day 69, Year 8: Wonderful Watermaker Music
Date: Friday, January 11, 2013
Weather: Morning Rain; Mostly Cloudy Afternoon
Location: Lightkeepers Marina in Coquina Harbor, Little River, SC

Oh, that wonderful watermaker music. It is really obnoxious, but I was sure glad to hear it this afternoon when Mark finally got the watermaker reinstalled and working. Our watermaker sits under the galley sink cabinet and when it is running it makes the same rhythmic sound over and over and over. When we are on passage, I always imagine that it is saying the name of the next port, but it has to be at least three syllables and is better if it has four. Au-tu-tak-i, Phu-ket Is-land, Mad-a-gas-car . . . these names would be the watermaker mantra. Right now it is, “I am run-ning.” And we are very happy about that. Today Mark was running the watermaker using distilled water from the store, certainly not pulling in the harbor water as there is always too much of a chance of oil in the water. After making sure everything was in good working order, he put in the chemicals to pickle it. This is how you preserve it when it is not going to be in use for a long period and we won’t need it again until we eventually head out for an off-shore adventure. It was reassuring to know that it was still working after being dormant for the past 18 months and is now properly stored for the next few months. Mark’s next job is to try once again to find the perpetual water leak that we have. This time, if he cannot find the leak, he is going to replump everything. Sure hope he finds that pesky leak.

I stayed true to my promise to launch into my writing project today. The first task is to get Year 2 logs in the same format as all of the other years. Unfortunately, that is a slow process and I am only a fourth of the way through Year 2. That will continue tomorrow.

We are having a run of very warm days. This weekend the temps will be in the 70’s, but by next Wednesday we will be back to more normal January weather. In the meantime, we plan to enjoy those days.
