Day 59, Year 8: Happy New Year
Date: Tuesday, January 1, 2013
Weather: Mostly Cloudy, High Temp in Low 30’s F, Windy
Location: Visiting with Heather and Jed, East Falmouth, MA
Mark and I want to wish everyone a very Happy New Year. As we sat at the
breakfast table this morning, Heather had us all write down our
‘revolutions’–Jonah’s name for resolutions. Since we are hoping for a
healthier year, our ‘revolutions’ centered around living a healthy lifestyle
incorporating more daily exercise. As we reflect on 2012, we are so thankful
for Mark’s doctors. Each specialist has been absolutely top-notch. We are
grateful for the fantastic level of care given at Mass General Hospital, and
we have a whole new appreciation of Medicare. It has been fantastic. So even
though we had a challenging year, we have so much to be thankful for. And
that includes a loving, caring family at the very top of the list. We are so
happy that we were able to be here with Heather, Jed, and kids to see in the
New Year. We missed Justin, Jo, Ziggy, and Coco so much, but we did get to
talk to them via Skype video this afternoon. They had a big New Year’s Eve
party at their house last night and many of the people had to spend the
night as they got over a foot of snow. Both Ziggy and Coco were so cute this
afternoon. Coco, like Oliver, is in a very verbal stage, much of which
sounds like grunting, but to a grandparent it sounds beautiful. Ziggy is
still obsessed with fishing and spent much of the time we were on the phone
catching ‘fish’ in an imaginary net.
We worked on the kitchen project today and should finish up in the morning.
Heather, Mark, and I, along with the kids, took off for Hyannis this
afternoon. We thought Heather and Mark could get screen shields for their
new Nexus tablets at Best Buy, but we had no such luck. In fact, we learned
that there is no place on the Cape that carries support items for the Nexus.
Just as we have found so many other times before, shopping possibilities on
the Cape are extremely limited. Heather needs a cover for her tablet, but
even that is not available. We’ll just order online, but we wish we hadn’t
spent much of the afternoon shopping and coming home empty-handed. Well,
almost empty-handed. Heather did buy a much needed printer. Tomorrow we will
finish up the painting and then head to Boston. We will have dinner with my
niece Candi and her family tomorrow night and head to Mass General on
Thursday morning.
