Day 55, Year 8: From South Carolina to Massachusetts

Weather: Cool in SC; Cold in MA (but quite mild during the day)
Location: Visiting with Heather and Jed, East Falmouth, MA
Mark and I are now both in Massachusetts. I flew in today and was met by
Mark, Heather, Jed, Sam, Jonah, and Oliver at the airport in Boston. I was
on the escalator coming down to the Baggage Claims area when I saw Jonah,
and then Sam, running to meet me. Their big smiles and hugs sure warm a
grandmother’s heart. Oliver was with his momma and he was a little more
reluctant to embrace us, but I’m sure he will warm up to us in the next day
or two. He gives us big smiles, but prefers that momma holds him. He had on
a little lamb jacket. Coco got one of those for Christmas as well. So cute.
We started the drive home, but it was rush hour on a Friday afternoon of a
long weekend. So Mark put forth the idea of stopping at IKEA for a dinner of
IKEA meatballs. It is certainly a cheap way to have dinner and they always
have a video playing for the little ones. Since the boys had already been in
the car for 3-4 hours, it was a welcome break. And while there, we were able
to buy solar-powered reading lamps for the boat. Dominique and Dominique of
KEA introduced us to these last week and we jumped at the chance to buy and
try them. The little solar panels pop out of the base and you put them
outside to charge during the day. Then at night, you pop them back in and
have free energy. We only bought two, but if we like them, we’ll buy more.
The come in bright colors or white or black. We let Sam and Jonah pick out
the ones we bought and Sam chose red and Jonah chose orange. The color
combination might not be great, but the boys love it.
We are staying with Heather and Jed until we return to South Carolina on
January 8. We are so excited to be able to be here to visit for a few days.
We will spend next Thursday and Friday in Boston when Mark has to return to
Mass General Hospital for testing, but the rest of the time we will be here
and can just enjoy Heather and Jed’s company and play with the boys.
