Day 52, Year 8: A Very Merry Christmas
Date: Tuesday, December 25, 2012
Weather: Partly Sunny and Warm Christmas Day, Temp mid-60’s F
Location: Lightkeepers Marina in Coquina Harbor, Little River, SC
We had a very Merry Christmas. We got to see all of the grandchildren in
action today via Skype video and video sent via email. Both Coco and Oliver
were sleeping when we called, but Coco woke up and we got see a video of
Oliver later in the day. They all looked engaged and happy. Sam was playing
the role of an astronaut in his new astronaut costume while Jonah was
belting out the Star Spangled Banner on his new karaoke machine. Ziggy had
just shed his dive suit when we called and we got to see his new kitchen
set. Both babies adorable–Coco in a white jacket made to look like a little
lamb and Oliver busily exploring a music table. We sure missed being with
them today, but we really appreciated getting see them via video.
Here in Calabash, Santa was very benevolent. We got a bit of a late start,
but when we did start opening presents, Patsy, Joe, Mark, and I were at it
for almost two hours. But first, Mark and I brought the dinghy motor up and
then raised the dinghy on the davits. We then took out the plug so it can
drain if it rains while we are gone. It takes two of us to do that job and
since Mark was leaving this afternoon, this morning was our last chance. We
then went to Patsy and Joe’s and enjoyed a decadent breakfast of artichoke
quiche and fruit flan. So it was almost 11 am before we started opening
presents. In the early afternoon Mark and I went to visit with Lee and Lynda
Kaufman and their two sons and their significant others that are here
visiting. It’s been almost twenty years since we last saw Seth and Josh, so
it was great to see them. I’ve been invited to have dinner with them
tomorrow night and will have more time to catch up on the last twenty years!
I’m hoping we will have left-overs from their Christmas dinner today. Seth
and Josh had a ‘Turducken’ (turkey stuffed with a duck and duck stuffed with
a chicken) sent for Christmas and I’m anxious to taste the final product.
After visiting with the Kaufman’s we returned to my sister’s for a Christmas
dinner of ham and potato salad. Since we had to eat so early in the
afternoon, we had our ‘formal’ dinner last night and a much more informal
dinner this afternoon. And then my sister and I ended our Christmas Day by
watching “It’s A Wonderful Life.” After watching it, I surely don’t think
I’ve ever seen it before. So now my Christmas experience is complete. I
loved watching James Stewart and Donna Reed and the story was surely worth
the watch.
Mark flew out of Myrtle Beach around 6 pm and arrived in Boston four hours
later after a stop in Charlotte. He took a bus and then the T (Boston’s
subway system) to Cambridge and just arrived at Sue and John Reed’s home a
few minutes ago. He borrowed a very heavy winter coat from my brother-in-law
Joe and he said it shielded him from the cold. There was enough new fallen
snow to make walking on the sidewalk too slick, so he just walked in the
road. The important thing is that he arrived safely.
