Day 49, Year 8: Make New Friends But Keep the Old
Date: Saturday, December 22, 2012
Weather: Mostly Sunny, Still Windy and Cool
Location: Lightkeepers Marina in Coquina Harbor, Little River, SC

If you were ever a Girl Scout, you must know the song that goes, “Make new
friends, but keep the old. One is silver and the other gold.” We are making
new friends here, have some old friends here, and have had cruising friends
visiting, so we have been thinking a lot about good friends. It is that time
of year. We spent time aboard KEA this morning before Dominique and
Dominique sailed away. Parting is a bit sorrowful, but promises of meeting
again soon make it joyful. We do hope to see the Doms in the Bahamas in
early February, and if not then, we don’t know when. But somehow I’m sure
our paths will cross again. I spent more time baking early in the afternoon
and then we rushed to find a UPS or FedEx store still open to send our Sanyo
camera in for repair. We are dealing with lots of camera repairs these days,
but the Sanyo just needs a new capacitor that will hold the charge in the
camera that keeps the date current. Once that was sent, we went to see our
‘old’ friend Lee that had surgery on his arm yesterday. He’s taking pain
medication and is doing great. He is restricted to doing almost nothing for
the next two weeks, but hopefully then he will be able to lead a slightly
more normal life. I call Lee an ‘old’ friend as we have known the Kaufman’s
for over thirty years. They are gold. Lee and Lynda are looking forward to
the arrival of their two sons and their significant others on Christmas Eve.
In the meantime, Lynda and I are slated to bake pecan pies tomorrow
afternoon. After visiting with Lee and Lynda, we hurried away to go to
dinner at the home of new friends, Brian and Judy Thompson. They are silver
for us but have been friends of my sister’s family for years. We had a
wonderful dinner with Brian, Judy, their son Steve visiting here from
Charlotte, and my sister Patsy and brother-in-law Joe. The last time we were
together, Judy and Brian heard Mark and I say that we were not sure we have
ever seen the movie, “It’s a Wonderful Life.” So they gave us the DVD as a
Christmas present. We can’t wait to watch it and confirm whether or not we
have seen it. If we haven’t, we must be in the 1% who have not.
