Day 48, Year 8: Welcome Yule
Date: Friday, December 21, 2012
Weather: Mostly Sunny and Very Windy, Temp Around 50 degrees F
Location: Lightkeepers Marina in Coquina Harbor, Little River, SC

This is the night of the winter solstice, the longest night of the year. Historically, winter solstice was a religious celebration of Northern European people and was referred to as Yule or Yuletide. Eventually it was absorbed into the Christian celebration of Christmas. I like to think of it as the beginning of the new year as the days will be just a bit longer starting tomorrow. And longer days is a sufficient reason for me to celebrate winter solstice. So join me in that celebration by silently belting out a hearty ‘Welcome Yule’ greeting to all of those that you love. And I am celebrating this longest night with the shortest log I have ever written.
