Day 43, Year 8: KEA Arrived
Date: Sunday, December 16, 2012
Weather: Overcast and Warm
Location: Lightkeepers Marina in Coquina Harbor, Little River, SC

Just after 10 am this morning, Mark and I got into the dinghy and went
zooming down the waterway in search of KEA. It seemed warm enough to go
without jackets, but being down close to the water and going so fast made it
just a bit chilly. We almost turned around to go get jackets, but then we
saw KEA’s mast around the next corner. We waved hello and then attached our
dinghy to KEA and hopped aboard for the ride into Coquina Harbor. It was
great to see Dominique and Dominique once again. We spent New Year’s Eve
2010 with them in South Africa, and shortly after that we both went our
separate ways. It is hard to believe that it has been almost two years since
then, but the calendar tells us that is so. At any rate, it was wonderful to
see them again and do a little catching up on their recent travels in Canada
and their survival in New York City during Hurricane Sandy. They are only
here for a few days and then they will be off to the Bahamas. We are hoping
we will see them there for a reunion with Ed and Lynne of Constance.

We had planned a trip to Costco with my sister Patsy for this afternoon so
we invited the Doms to join us. I really should have taken a photo of our
shopping carts filled to the brim but you will just have to imagine their
cart loaded with 25 pound bags of flour and sugar, huge bags of carrots,
onions, and apples, and on and on. Our cart was loaded to the hilt with
canned green beans, peas, tomato sauce, and mushrooms, large containers of
various nuts and dried fruits, the pretzels Mark loves, and on and on and
on. Patsy’s cart was not quite so full, but then she is not provisioning for
weeks of travel. When we checked out, the total bill was just under $1,000.
Unfortunately, almost half of that was our share. But we, and Dominque and
Dominque on KEA feel much closer to being ready for our trip to the Bahamas.
KEA will be here a few days and then head south to Charleston when the
weather is right. We had them over for dinner tonight and very much enjoyed
being back in their company. We will do more visiting over the next few days
and then part once more. But as we have learned, cruisers have an amazing
way of parting for long periods of time and then feeling as if no time at
all has passed when they reunite. I think there is an unwritten code of
“Friends Forever” that exists among those of us who traveled around the
globe together.
