Day 38, Year 8: The Never Ending Story
Date: Tuesday, December 11, 2012
Weather: Partly to Mostly Cloudy, Warm, Rain in the PM
Location: Lightkeeper’s Marina in Coquina Harbor, Little River, SC
I don’t even want to write this . . . the anchor chain story continues and
seems never ending. This morning we learned that rain was forecast for this
afternoon, tonight, and all day tomorrow. So we had to put off painting the
chain. That gave us a chance to rethink yesterday’s to paint the chain with
Rustoleum Rusty Metal Primer. We now think we must continue to search for a
different type of product that we will probably have to order. So we put
the chain back in the chain locker and brought the anchor line into the
cockpit to continue drying while it rains. A rainy day tomorrow should give
us time to search. Tonight we had dinner at Lee and Lynda’s (a delicious
dinner I must add) and Lee and Mark started looking at rust converters.
There is something called Corroseal that chemically converts rust into a
black protective coating on steel. Then there’s the product we were
searching for a couple of days ago, Boeshield T-9, that lubricates and
protects metals in a marine environment. Too much information and no place
to purchase any of the products-Ugh. I’ll take a deep breath and we will
continue tomorrow.
Since we decided not to paint today, I called my sister and offered to take
her shopping. I knew she needed to go finish up some Christmas shopping for
things that need to be sent in the mail, so that is what we did. Mark went
with us and we made a morning of it. Tomorrow I’ll try to finish up our
Christmas shopping online. And we will also deal with another seemingly
never ending story. The strange blisters that appeared on Mark’s feet
before Thanksgiving are still plaguing him. The pain and difficulty walking
resulting from the pain is increasing. The appearance has changed but is
not better-just different. He returns to the dermatologist tomorrow to see
what should be done next. Since no one he has seen to date knows what it is
or how to deal with it, we’re not sure what to do. Another-Ugh. Maybe
we’ll find some answers tomorrow on 12/12/12.
Before I end I must mention that we met another live-aboard cruiser from New
Hampshire today. Gary and Carol Riehlman from New Castle are living aboard
their boat, Antares, here at Lightkeeper’s for the winter. They sail north
to New Hampshire in the summers and go to the Bahamas or Florida in the
winter. This year they decided to stay here in Little River. Gary is a
golfer and this is definitely a golfer’s heaven. It’s always nice to meet
someone from back home.
