Day 31, Year 8: First Butterflies, Now Mosquitoes
Date: Tuesday, December 4, 2012
Weather: Partly Cloudy and Very Warm, Temp in the 70’s
Location: Lightkeeper’s Marina in Coquina Harbor, Little River, SC
This weather is so warm that we now have mosquitoes in December. The
butterflies we saw yesterday were welcome, but not these little beasties.
It is supposed to get cooler on Thursday when the winds start coming from
the NE, so maybe they will go away. But we must say that we are truly
enjoying the summer-like days, even with the mosquitoes.
We had an absolutely delightful evening aboard Windbird with Brian and Judy
Thompson. I first met Brian years ago when my sister Patsy lived in Akron,
Ohio. I was teaching in nearby Cleveland and when I would visit my sister,
I often saw Brian. He was a bit older than Patsy and Joe’s daughters, but
was friends with them and did odd jobs for Patsy and Joe. He has remained
good friends with Patsy and Joe, and it is so nice to get reacquainted with
him after all these years. He and his wife Judy moved to Little River in
August so I know we will be seeing more of them.
I have a feeling we will be spending tomorrow shopping AGAIN, but this time
it will be for two items we were not expecting to buy. One of Mark’s lenses
from his glasses popped out of his frames and dropped into the water today.
His back-up glasses are also broken, so he is now using a pair that is about
ten years old. So we will probably go to someplace like Lens Crafters for
an appointment to see if they can replace just one lens. He got this pair
of glasses in South Africa, so hopefully we can get the one lens replaced.
The other item we will be searching for is a dehumidifier. We have
discovered that we have a really bad condensation problem. Even with the
silver-backed bubble wrap lining all of the lockers, we are still getting
lots of condensation. One of the problems is that all of the storage areas
are packed to the hilt with ‘stuff’ so there is no air circulation. We’re
not sure a dehumidifier will solve the problem, but we are willing to invest
in one to see the results.
