Day 29, Year 8: Sunday Shopping
Date: Sunday, December 2, 2012
Weather: Mostly Cloudy, Day Temp Low 70’s, Night Temp Upper 40’s F
Location: Lightkeeper’s Marina in Coquina Harbor, Little River, SC

Before I write about our activities for the day, I must mention the weather
here. It is just so warm and wonderful and it looks like we should have
daytime temps in the 70’s through the week. We are loving it and just can’t
believe that is really December. The forecast is for cooler temps next
week, but we’ll take what we have for now and enjoy every minute of it.

Our day revolved around online Christmas shopping in the morning and
afternoon shopping in the local Tanger Outlet Mall. It was a mostly cloudy
day, so it was a good day for shopping. We are nearing the end of our
Christmas shopping, but this afternoon’s shopping was really not for
Christmas. It was one of those necessary shopping expeditions for me. I
have only Tevas, Birkenstocks, and sneakers for shoes and since we are going
to a party on Friday night, I need a pair of ‘dress’ shoes. Actually, I
hate shoes, but sometimes you just have to wear them. The pair of ‘dress’
shoes that went around the world with me literally fell off my feet last
year in Woods Hole and until today, I had not had the time nor inclination
to do anything about that. Actually, I found a pair in the first store we
walked into. That is a first for me, but that then gave us extra time to
browse the other stores. Dangerous, I know, but we did it and we found a
few things that we needed. We then went to my sister’s house for dinner.
After an afternoon of shopping, it was great to not have to go home and
cook. So thank you, Patsy.

Tomorrow morning is a work morning. Mark will continue applying AwlCare to
the topsides and I will continue my work on the computer fixing travel logs
from Year 2 of the Voyage of Windbird. In the afternoon we are going on
another shopping expedition. This time we will go with Lynda and Lee to
Costco and Best Buy in Myrtle Beach. It is about 25 miles from here to
there, so it is a bit of a trek. Mark and I are both still contemplating
electronic Christmas gifts for one another, so the trip to Best Buy is to
try out some of the options. And the stop at Costco is to buy wine. We
bought one bottle of Chilean red wine that was on sale at Costco over the
Thanksgiving weekend. I gave it to Diana, my nephew’s wife, for her
birthday and she immediately opened it and shared it with us. It was the
best red wine for the price that I have had in some time, so I’d love to buy
more if it is still on sale. We shall see.
