Day 26, Year 8: The End of the Turkey
Date: Thursday, November 29, 2012
Weather: Another Lovely Sunny Day
Location: Lightkeeper’s Marina in Coquina Harbor, Little River, SC
We can officially now put Thanksgiving behind us and move on to Christmas.
Today I canned the turkey broth that I made yesterday, made turkey soup, and put the last of the turkey into turkey tetrazzini casseroles. We ended up with 12 quarts of turkey broth. I canned 7 quarts, froze 3 quarts, and used 2 quarts in the soup. So the Thanksgiving turkeys are DONE. And I’m not sure I want to see another turkey for quite some time. We might have to have something different for Christmas. And now that we have seen the end of the Thanksgiving turkey, we are spending more time focusing on Christmas. We have three of the five grandchildren taken care of, but that leaves the two babies and the mommas and the poppas.
We had to change our plans to go to the Lincoln movie this afternoon. Patsy and Joe had forgotten that a woman was coming to remove an ink spot from their leather couch. It had taken a lot of coordinating the get the
appointment, so it was not one that could be broken easily. We can go to
the movie on an afternoon next week. And this will give Joe a chance to
finish reading the book. He is enthralled and spends most every minute of
the day reading. When he’s finished, I think we will do a quick review of
the book. It will then be more fun to see the movie and make comparisons.
We didn’t go to the movie this afternoon, but we did have a bird show. The
cormorants and herons in the area decided to have a grand meeting on the
Meadowlands Golf Course pond just behind my sister and brother-in-laws
house. There had been more of these fine feathered friends before we
arrived, but then they seemed to disappear for a few days. They were back
today and we enjoyed the show.
