Day 25, Year 8: After Effects of Thanksgiving
Date: Wednesday, November 28, 2012
Weather: Lovely Sunny Day, Lots of Wind
Location: Lightkeeper’s Marina in Coquina Harbor, Little River, SC

Today was my day to revisit Thanksgiving by getting the turkey carcasses out
of the freezer to make broth. Since we had two turkeys, I made two batches
of my Chicken (turkey) Magic Mineral Broth, with each batch making 8 quarts.
Sixteen quarts of broth is a lot of liquid and it takes a lot of veggies
added to the turkey carcasses and water to make it really good. The longer
you let this broth burble, the better, so it took most of the day. Tonight
the broth is in the refrigerator at my sister’s. Tomorrow morning I will
skim off the fat and then freeze and can broth and make soup for tomorrow
night’s dinner. We are going to see the new Lincoln movie tomorrow
afternoon with my sister and brother-in-law and will return after the
matinee for a soup and salad dinner. We are looking forward to seeing the
movie about Lincoln. Both of us have read Doris Kearns Goodwin’s “A Team of
Rivals”-the book on which the Spielberg movie is based. Heather bought this
book for me in 2009 before we returned to Malaysia to start our trek across
the Indian Ocean. I think I read it while in the Indian Ocean and Mark read
it on the way from South Africa to Grenada. That book has been around,
literally around the Cape of the Good Hope, and today I gave it to my
brother-in-law Joe to read. We saw very little of him after that as he kept
going into hiding to read the book. We’ll let you know tomorrow night if
the movie measures up to the book.

This afternoon Lynne Kirwin called and we talked for a long time while Mark
went to see a dermatologist. Lynne and Ed are from the boat Constance and
were our constant companions from Thailand to India to the Maldives to
Chagos to Madagascar and on to South Africa. Constance is still on land up
a river in southern Georgia, but they are hoping to get her ready to launch
and head to the Bahamas in January. It was great talking to Lynne today and
we are looking forward to seeing them at anchor once again.

Mark’s visit to the dermatologist didn’t give us a lot of new information
about the issue he has been having on the bottoms of his feet and the rash
on the tops of his feet and stomach. The dermatologist believes the problem
was caused by the drug Mark was using for the neuropathy. When Mark saw a
doctor last week, he was put on a steroid that relieved the symptoms. The
dermatologist now wants him to stop taking the steroid to see if the
symptoms reoccur. If they do, the dermatologist will be able to analyze the
problem. If the symptoms don’t return, we will just assume the problem was
caused by the neuropathy medication and not take that again.

Mark played the role of Christmas shopper today. He spent most of his day
online reading reviews of possible presents for grandchildren and then
placing the orders. We have Sam, Jonah, and Ziggy taken care of, but the
wee babes and their parents are a little more difficult. I think we need to
contact Santa’s elves and see if they have any ideas. In the meantime, I
think I will go out and consult that beautiful full moon to see if any great
ideas drop from the sky.
