Day 140, Year 8: Early Easter Bunny

Spring certainly hasn’t shown itself, but despite that, the Easter Bunny arrived here a week early. We joined other members of the North Strand Sail & Power Squadron this morning as volunteers for a community Easter Egg Scramble. It was supposed to be an Easter egg hunt, but the rains came and turned it into an Easter basket event. We filled baskets with plastic eggs containing candy and toys and distributed those to the children that came. The Community Center Facility Director mentioned that she had an Easter Bunny costume and one of our members, Ken Delson, volunteered to wear it. As with everything he does, Ken wore it with a special pizzazz to the delight of the children. And when he was worn out from the heat generated inside the suit, Mark put on the costume and finished out the morning as the Easter Bunny. The Sail & Power Squadron has been meeting in the C. B. Berry Community Center on a monthly basis, so volunteering at events they sponsor is our way of thanking them. It was a fun morning, even with the rain, and I think the children really enjoyed meeting the Easter Bunny.
Things here at 710 Wild Oak Lane are progressing. Patsy is having some side effects from the antibiotic she is taking for the pneumonia and the diuretic she is taking for the edema. Both are affecting her digestive system and making her very uncomfortable. But she is working hard to counter the effects and is making progress. I spent my afternoon experimenting in the kitchen. Patsy is diabetic and I was trying to bake low carb items using Stevia as a sugar substitute. The flourless chocolate cake I made was a success. Unfortunately Patsy didn’t get to try it, but Mark and Joe loved it! Tomorrow Patsy and Joe’s youngest daughter, Janet, is flying in for a three-day visit. I know Patsy is looking forward to this and I am hoping that this will be the thing that will give her the energy to turn this thing around.
