Day 129, Year 8: Shambala Visits Lightkeepers Marina
Date: Tuesday March 12, 2013
Weather: Rainy Morning, Partly Cloudy Afternoon, High Temp in the 60’s F
Location: Lightkeepers Marina in Coquina Harbor, Little River, SC

Shambala of Mooloolaba (I just love writing that) arrived at Lightkeepers Marina on this rainy, foggy Tuesday morning and we proceeded to ignore the rain and have a great day with Chris and Geoff. Shambala is the name of the boat and the home port is Mooloolaba in Queensland, Australia. We met in South Africa and were so excited to be able to share a bit of our home country with Chris and Geoff today. They are on their way to the Bahamas, but technical difficulties might keep them here another day. Their Raymarine radar is not working and a little internet research this evening led them to think that sending the unit to Raymarine for repair is the best plan of attack. That will be tomorrow’s chore. But today we spent time together on Windbird and then went for a bit of ‘tour’ of North Myrtle Beach. Making a necessary trip to Radio Shack for a needed battery for one of their GPS units gave us the excuse to show them the town. And, of course, a trip to the beach was a necessary part of this. We spent this evening at Patsy and Joe’s where they could take advantage of the internet connection to make Skype calls home to Australia and do the research necessary to figure out what to do with the radar. Mark grilled salmon filets and we had a great dinner and talked about some of our experiences from around the world. After dinner we talked to mutual cruising friends Peppe and Bob out in Oregon. They lost their beloved boat Far Niente on a reef in Puerto Rico and have been searching for a way to get back on the water ever since. They have friends that are purchasing a big catamaran to sail across the South Pacific and Peppe and Bob have been invited to go along as crew. What a perfect opportunity for them. In the same evening we got an email from another mutual cruising couple, Dominique and Dominique of KEA, who were here visiting just before Christmas. They are now cruising on the south side of Cuba and having a wonderful time. It is great to keep in contact with all of these very special cruising friends.
