It was a quiet morning on Windbird as we did all of those things you do after you get back home after a vacation. got clothes and other items put away, got caught up on correspondence, and other things like that. Surely nothing exciting, just necessary. We then went to Patsy and Joe’s to help Joe get started with his new breadmaker. On our recommendation, he bought a Zojirushie. Zojirushie started as a trading company in Osaka, Japan, in 1918. The original trading company name was changed a couple of times and took on the current name in 1961. ZO means elephant in Japanese and this became the corporate logo symbolizing strength and intelligence. The company’s original claim to fame was producing vacuum bottles but now produces rice cookers and breadmakers. We learned about the breadmaker from Heather and Jed who have had one for a few years and have been very pleased. You can make bread, dough, and even jam in this machine. Today we tried the 100% whole wheat recipe with one addition to the ingredients and one substitution. Joe always puts an egg in his bread, so even though the recipe didn’t call for this, we put it in. And he always uses honey instead of sugar for the sweetening, so we made that substitution. He was very pleased with the result. Mark often makes the bread at Heather’s and we have sometimes gotten mixed results, but today’s loaf was great. I just wish I had taken a photo of that perfect loaf to post. I’ll make sure I take pictures the next time. Tomorrow I will label the hundreds of old photos Joe scanned in from slides while we were gone while Mark will stay on Windbird and repair a leaky toilet. I think I have the better end of this deal.
