Day 348, Year 6: Tom and Kitty Arrive
Date: Friday, October 7, 2011
Weather: Sunny Day, Cooler Than Normal
Location: Eel Pond, Woods Hole, Massachusetts

This morning I drove to Providence to pick up our friends Kitty and Tom who were taking the train up from Baltimore. I arrived in Providence a bit early which gave me a chance to explore the area around the train station. The station is situated in the state offices complex right across from the capitol building and a downtown shopping mall. It is a lovely area and I enjoyed the time I had to explore. Once Kitty and Tom arrived, we drove in circles for a bit to find the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) which actually ended up to be only a couple of blocks from the train station. We had lunch there and then toured the RISD Museum of Art. By the time we got to Falmouth it was almost 4:30 pm, so we did a bit of shopping, picked Mark up at West Marine, and headed for Woods Hole. We did a quick tour of the village of Woods Hole and then headed out to Windbird. Tom and Kitty brought the makings for Baltimore crab cakes for dinner and some wonderful cheeses for appetizers. Delicious! They also brought Baltimore chocolate for dessert and some Ben and Jerry’s ice cream for dessert. The ice cream was sooooo good, but the name of Swededdy Balls created a bit of comment.

The weather for the weekend is looking great as far as sunshine and temperature, but after tomorrow the winds look quite light. So we are contemplating an early start and sailing all the way to Nantucket tomorrow while we have the winds with us. The final decision will be made after we are out there and see what the weather is really like. Sailing is a bit science and a bit art. You research and then give it a go. Depending on how things ‘feel’ you make decisions on how to proceed. So we’ll just have to see how tomorrow goes.
