Day 324, Year 6: News from Fellow Cruisers
Date: Tuesday, September 13, 2011
Weather: Beautiful Day, Temp in the 70’s
Location: Eel Pond, Woods Hole, Massachusetts

It was one of those mornings when the sky was so blue and the sun so bright at 7:15 am that it looked more like noon. I woke up and thought we had overslept. But no, it was just bright and beautiful early in the morning. Our day was a bit of a repeat of yesterday. We picked up Jed and kids and delivered them to Woods Hole, but today we went back to the boat to spend the morning aboard. We had one unexpected problem to deal with today and that was a problem with the brakes on our Ford Taurus. Mark put the parking brake on yesterday and left it on for quite some distance before we noticed the smell. That might have been the straw that broke the camel’s back as all of a sudden we had a terrible noise coming from the rear of the car. Jed made arrangements for the repair and Mark and I took the car in. Unfortunately, we needed brakes all around. That was an expensive deal, but it is done. Since we were down to one car between Heather and Jed and us for the remainder of the day, we all ended up doing a bit of shuffling. So now we all have less money, but now we are back to two cars. That helps.

We have gotten a number of emails from cruising friends in the past few days. Ed and Lynne of Constance, the couple that we sailed with in the Indian Ocean, are spending time with family in Michigan and New York. Constance is in Georgia and I think she will be there until sometime next year. Ed and Lynne are just enjoying being with family and aren’t ready to head back out yet. We heard from Dave and Judy on Freebird. We saw them last in Cochin, India. They went through the Red Sea have spent the last year in the Med. They are now in Italy and will be there through the winter. Bob and Peppe of Far Niente have the boat stored on land in Trinidad while they are visiting back home in the Seattle area. When they go back to Far Niente in Trinidad they will explore the Northwest Caribbean and the San Blas islands of Panama before heading through the canal and up the west coast of Mexico on their way back home. Pieter and Carla of Odulphus wrote from the Netherlands saying that they have been having typical Dutch summer weather-lots of rain and cold winds with a couple of sunny days here and there. But they love it and are sailing Odulphus in what they consider to be the best cruising waters in the world-the IJsselmeer. They are just so happy to be back home in their ‘klompencountry.’ Larry and Mary Anne of Traversay III are now in Falmouth, England. We so enjoy hearing from our cruising friends. And even though we are all spread around the world, I can feel the warmth of friendship through the emails and look forward to a time in the future when we can see each other again.
