Day 323, Year 6: Full Moon Over Eel Pond
Date: Monday, September 12, 2011
Weather: Cloudy Early, Clearing Late Morning, Temp in the 70’s
Location: Eel Pond, Woods Hole, Massachusetts

There is a beautiful full moon out there tonight. We left Heather and Jed’s late this evening and as we walked to the car we saw the full moon. Once in Woods Hole we got in the dinghy and there was that beautiful moon again, shining brightly on Eel Pond. A full moon is a sight I never tire of seeing.

Today was a busy one. Because of the conference that Heather is attending this week, she has to leave home early and comes home late. That means that she has to have one vehicle, and since their second is not running right now, we offered to be the second. We picked Jed, Jonah, and Sam up at 8:45 am to bring them to Woods Hole for work and school and then Mark and I went from marina to marina checking the cost of a haul-out. We currently have our boat insurance through Blue Water and we thought that since we are no longer traveling in foreign waters that we should check to see if we can get cheaper insurance. We contacted Boat US and found that we can get comparable insurance for about one-fourth the price we are currently paying, but getting it requires an out-of-the-water survey. Thus, the checking into prices for a haul-out. We’ve also contacted Blue Water to see if our new status might lower our insurance with them. But since our insurance payment to Blue Water is due in a month, we will need to move fast if we are going to switch companies. I’ll let you know how this turns out. We also went to West Marine so Mark could check on ordering a few items we need. Mark really can’t do this while he is working, so we spent almost an hour there checking things out. While there, I saw sneakers and Teva sandals on clearance and couldn’t pass us the bargains. We headed back to Woods Hole to lunch on the boat and then picked the boys up and headed back into Falmouth to spend the afternoon at Heather and Jed’s. Mark worked preparing the site for the new shed, and once the boys were up from nap, they went out to help. I was fixing dinner when Jonah came running into the kitchen with an earth worm so big I thought it was a baby snake! While helping Granddad dig dirt out of the site, Jonah unearthed a load of worms. Worms are his favorite thing, so much so that his birthday cake this June was a gummy worm dirt cake. By the end of the afternoon we had pet worms in a container in kitchen and enough dirt from the construction site to start a worm farm on the floor! This process will continue tomorrow, so we’ll have at least one more ‘dirt day’ before we start the actual building. Jed had a 7:00 pm meeting, so he had to leave right after dinner. We took the boys for a wagon ride and just as we were about to get them into the bathtub, mommy got home. She got a greeting fit for a queen from Sam and Jonah. We’ll continue the same routine tomorrow and the next day, and then on Thursday we’re off to the boat show with both boys. But I’ve run on long enough about the details of today. I’d better end this and get to bed so I’ll have enough energy to start again tomorrow morning.
