Day 313, Year 6: Cape Cod Weather
Date: Friday, September 2, 2011
Weather: Warm, Sunny Day, Cool Evening
Location: Eel Pond, Woods Hole, Massachusetts
First of all, I can’t believe it is September. Last year at this time we were in Madagascar and there is no fall weather there! The year before that we were here in September and that memory was triggered today when I took Mark to work and then drove to Heather and Jed’s. When I got to their street, there were leaves falling from the trees. Many leaves fell during Irene, but today’s leaves were different. As they swirled to the ground I could only think that fall is right around the corner. Die-hard Cape Codders swear that the weather here is the most perfect in the world. It is rarely too hot, and they would say rarely too cold. But for Mark and I who have spent most of the last six years in the tropics, even the summer evenings have been too cool. But we are adjusting and I have to admit that the weather during the past month has been just beautiful. It has been sunny most of the time and the daytime sky has been such a beautiful deep blue. We’ve adjusted to the cool evenings and now I’m hoping that we can learn to enjoy the even cooler evenings of fall. Maybe by the time winter gets here, we will have acclimatized.
I spent most of my day in Heather and Jed’s kitchen. After dropping Mark at work, I went to the grocery store to buy food for this weekend and then I went to Heather and Jed’s to do some cooking. Since I needed to store items in the refrigerator for the day, it gave me the incentive to clean out the refrigerator. Then I made potato salad for this weekend and baked granola for the next two months. I did laundry that I brought from the boat and I worked in the garden getting ready for fall planting. It was a busy day and then I picked Mark up at 4 pm. When we got back to Windbird, Mark launched into a sewing project. We have needed to add an extra strip of Sunbrella to our bimini to help divert rain from entering the cockpit through gaps in the canvas. So Mark spent his evening doing this so we could put the bimini back up. We took it down for Irene but we need it back up this weekend as the weather reports are calling for thunder storms tomorrow and rain on Monday. Its too soon to tell what Hurricane Katia will do, but we sure are hoping she is not headed our way.
