Day 291, Year 6 Beautiful Weather
Date: Thursday, August 11, 2011
Weather: Sunny, Blue Skies, Mid-70’s
Location: Eel Pond, Woods Hole, Massachusetts

The weather today was just beautiful. The sky was a clear blue with just a few white puffy clouds around the horizon and the sun was so bright that it sparkled on the water even in the early morning.. Mark didn’t work today, but I had a 9:15 am appointment with the chiropractor. So Mark took me to shore and on the way I decided that it was so beautiful that I would call Heather and see if it was okay for me to take the boys to Windbird for their afternoon naps and then walk to the beach with them. A little later in the morning I called and Heather thought it was a great idea. In fact, she said that she and Jed would meet us there. So Jonah, Sam, and I headed to Woods Hole after the morning at Summer Camp. Mark picked us up and the only hitch was that Jonah fell asleep on the way, but then woke wide awake when we got in the dinghy and immediately wanted to drive the dinghy. I tried to convince him that you can’t nap and drive, but he won. It was tricky getting him back to sleep once on the boat, but he finally conked out. Sam looked at books quietly while I was putting Jonah to sleep and then we read and he fell asleep as soon as I closed the book. I’m afraid Jonah is getting a cold and he woke up coughing after an hour and a half, so I held him and did my best to rock him without a rocking chair for the rest of his nap. While sitting there with him, I tried to figure out how to fit a rocking chair in the main cabin, but I’m afraid that won’t work! During the afternoon while I was taking care of Sam and Jonah, Mark was on the phone doing his public radio work. After naps, he took time out to take us to shore and then I headed to the beach with Sam and Jonah. It is a short walk from the far side of the pond and the both boys were super cooperative during our walk. I was carrying a beach bag, so Jonah held one hand and Sam held on to the bag. The beach in Woods Hole is tiny and it was fairly crowded due to the beautiful weather, but it was just the right thing to do on such a beautiful afternoon But both boys got cold after a few dips in the water. The water temperature is warm but certainly not anywhere near body temperature and 70 degree weather is warm, but not when you are wet and the wind is blowing. Our beach stay was short but wonderful and then we all went back to Windbird for dinner. Heather, Jed, Sam, and Jonah actually decided to spend the night and we all got to enjoy the almost full moon. What a treat!
