Day 285, Year 6 Pizza Friday
Date: Friday, August 5, 2011
Weather: Sunny Morning, Cloudy Afternoon
Location: Eel Pond, Woods Hole, Massachusetts
Friday’s are pizza nights for Heather, Jed, Sam, and Jonah, so I thought I’d try and be helpful and make the dough ahead of time. The pizza dough recipes that I use have you pre-bake the crust before adding the goodies and then baking just long enough for everything to warm up and/or melt. Well, I tried this with bread machine pizza dough and got a product that had the properties of very large rectangular crackers. Heather makes the bread machine dough all the time and it works great, so I guess you can’t pre-bake some dough. Either that or I did something terribly wrong when combining the ingredients. We ended up having to buy pizza dough from the grocery store which pushed dinner a little too late for the kids, but the pizza was good. Next time I think I’ll not try to fix the dough ahead and just let Heather do it when she gets home.
Mark had a bit of a mishap today as well. He was carrying a pen around in the pocket of his pants at work and the pen leaked and got blue stains all over the pocket area of the pants. He asked me to go buy a product called Goof Off to get rid of the stain. It is a stain remover that removes the toughest stains, but sometimes it discolors the material. I started to try this on an inside pocket while I was at Heather’s, but the smell was so overwhelming that I didn’t want to do this with children around. So I’ll work on the stains tomorrow. When I was in the paint store buying Goof Off another customer told me that I should try Lestoil. So hopefully is one doesn’t work, the other will.
So all we have to show for today is a stained pair of pants and concrete pizza dough. Let’s hope we are more successful in our ventures tomorrow.
