Day 278, Year 6 Relaxed Day with the Kids

Mark worked at West Marine today and the rest of us made the decision to have a low-key, relaxed day. We played in the backyard and Jonah and Sam had great fun picking up some of Ziggy’s British accent. When we swing, we go ‘highyah’ instead of higher. They are learning to drop the ‘r’ on the end of many words and Sam loves saying ‘nOoooo’ in that just so British way. Heather and Jed both took the day off after Heather went to work from 6 am to 8:30 am-ugh! Justin also had to work off and on all day, but not so much that interfered with our good time. We took the little ones to a nearby Children’s Museum where they had loads of fun and then it was home for naps. Then I was back to the back yard to swing, climb up to the play house, and dig in the dirt. Unfortunately Ziggy got a couple of hard knocks late this afternoon. He is not used to the swing set and he ran right in front of Sam swinging. He has a couple of very red places on his face from the fall, but he went right back to playing so I think he is fine. We had a fantastic dinner with grilled wild salmon, locally grown corn-on-the-cob, kale, and rice. Jonah and Sam spent part of the evening playing electronic music with Auntie Jo, and then Auntie Jo and Uncle Justin introduced Sam and Jonah to a web-based penguin movie. I was busy cleaning up the kitchen and missed the name of the little show. But I can tell from the attention paid to it that it is something I will have to learn about. And in all, we just generally had a nice, relaxed day.
Tomorrow morning the whole gang will arrive here at Windbird and we’ll sail to Martha’s Vineyard for the day. We’re hoping when we return that the little ones will stay with Oma and Granddad while their parents go out for cocktails and maybe even dinner here in Woods Hole. The success of this venture will depend on Oma and Granddad’s ability to keep Sam, Jonah, and Ziggy happy while their parents are away.
