Day 261, Year 6 Change of Plans
Date: Tuesday, July 12, 2011
Weather: Heavy Rain Overnight, Sunny Day
Location: Eel Pond, Woods Hole, Massachusetts

Today was another soccer camp day and I was supposed to go in mid-morning to be there with Sam. But just as I was getting ready to leave, Heather called and said they had decided not to send Sam to camp today. He was really unhappy and didn’t want to go, so he went to his regular summer camp instead and I picked him and Jonah up at 1:00 pm as usual. Mark went in with me this afternoon as he got a call from West Marine this morning asking him if he was willing to go out and install a main sheet line on a small racing boat. He had sold the line yesterday, but evidently the buyer needed help with the installation. So he made a little extra money on a non-work day which was great. He dropped Sam, Jonah, and me off at Heather’s and went off to do his job. The boys take naps in the afternoon, sometimes short naps, sometimes longer, and today was one of the longer days. Jonah was up a couple of times but once I took a fan upstairs to cool things down a bit, he went back to sleep and both boys had good naps In addition to the fan helping, Jonah finally asked me, “Where’s Sam?” When I showed him Sam was fast asleep in his top bunk, Jonah was out like a light. He just needed the reassurance that Sam was there. Heather called at 3:30 pm and wondered if I would like to bring the boys to Wood’s Hole to go to the beach. The boys weren’t up yet, so it took us a while. We didn’t get there until almost 5:00 pm, but it was a great way to end a beautiful day. The ocean water here is cool, but not as cold as I expected. This was our first trip to a beach here since we arrived, and we decided that we’ll have to do this more often.

As you can tell from reading these logs on how the days go, not a lot of writing or maintenance on Windbird is getting done, but there’s always tomorrow. For now we are truly enjoying each day, spending time with Heather, Jed, Sam, and Jonah, and very slowly getting into the Cape Cod life style. Tomorrow there is no summer camp because there is a downtown Falmouth Street Fair, so after taking Mark to work at West Marine, I’ll join Heather and Jonah at Sam’s soccer camp. Hopefully having a cheering section will encourage Sam to enjoy his morning there. After soccer camp we go downtown for a street fair. Then I’ll go home with the boys and Heather will go to work. At least that’s the current plan. Just as it is with the cruising life, life on land requires one to be tremendously flexible, especially when children are involved.
