Day 70, Year 10: Beach Day with Z & C
Date: Friday, December 19, 2014
Weather: Beautiful, Sunny Day, Temp in the 80’s F (70’s at night)
Location: Visiting with Justin, Jo, Ziggy, and Coco in Aguada, PR
Today Justin worked and Jo shopped ‘til she dropped while Mark and I spent a relaxed day on the beach with Ziggy and Coco. Justin and Jo live on a road that runs along the beach. They are on the land side of the road and other homes are on the beach side. There are public access entrances just a short walk in either direction from their house, so we went in one way, played on the beach along the way, and returned home from the other access point. We spent the late morning and most of the afternoon on the beach, eating a picnic lunch that Ziggy and Coco prepared for us. The houses along the beach are fenced and seem to have no direct access other than the public entrances. So you don’t feel like you are invading anyone’s property when you are on the beach. The tide was going out today and we enjoyed an area with lots of shade and a fantastic little pool of water just inside the inner reef. It was a perfect place and the water was so warm. Delightful. The beach is close enough that I walked home at one point to hang a laundry on the line and make myself a cup of coffee to take back to the beach. I sat in the water with Coco and enjoyed that coffee. So nice. Mark sat in the water up to his neck in what he and Coco called their bathtub and tonight I really think the rash on his back and chest look better. If it still looks good in the morning, he’ll try getting his neck, face, and head in the water and see if that helps.
Tomorrow will probably be a family beach day. We all have a few things to do to get ready for Christmas, but basically we are ready and can just enjoy the days together. Justin will work on Monday and Tuesday, so tomorrow and Sunday are our only days together with him until Christmas Eve. But even when he works, we still have breakfast and dinner together. We are having a great visit, really enjoying the relaxed time with the grandchildren, and reveling in this fantastic weather.
