Day 67, Year 10: Welcome, Kitty Clementine
Date: Tuesday, December 16, 2014
Weather: Mostly Sunny and Warm
Location: Visiting with Justin, Jo, Ziggy, and Coco in Aguada, PR
We started our day with the wonderful news that Jo’s sister Katherine had a baby in the early hours of the morning. So we want to welcome Kitty Clementine Warmerdam-Hunt to our extended family. The momma and baby are doing great and Justin, Jo, Ziggy, and Coco will be flying to England to meet the new baby right after Christmas. Ziggy saw a photo of Kitty and just said, “She looks like me.” And when I looked at her photo, I had to agree that she does look like Ziggy did when he was born. Coco was very excited as babies of any kind are her favorite things in the whole world. But she made sure I knew the new baby named Kitty was not really a kitten, but a real live baby.
I got up in time to go with Jo and Coco to take Ziggy to school while Mark took the opportunity to sleep in. Ziggy’s school adheres to the Waldorf School philosophy and was just opened this fall. It seems to be just perfect for Ziggy and he seemed to really enjoy taking me on a tour. He introduced me to his teacher and the other children in his class. And he showed me around the grounds. The school is just a house that is being rented, but the property that it is on is spectacular with a huge front and back lawn and a path that leads to the river that runs through the property. When Jo, Coco, and I returned home, Granddad was up and about. We are staying in the guest house that is just behind the main house. We are on the bottom floor and Justin’s office is on the second floor. He spent the day working and we just had a laid back day playing with Coco and going on a shopping trip to a Home Depot about 30 minutes south of here. We took Coco with us and on our way back, we met Justin, Jo, and Ziggy in downtown Aguada to have breakfast, or maybe it was more like dessert, for dinner. We had acai (ah-sah-ee) mixed with granola and all sorts of fresh, organic fruit. Everyone but me had their acai with blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, and bananas. I went for the more tropical fruits having mango, kiwi, papaya, strawberry, and banana. The acai is like black-purple frozen yogurt. It comes from the fruit of a palm tree that is native to Trinidad and northern South America. The main source is from the Amazon and it is touted to be a “superfood” with huge antioxidant properties. It was certainly delicious. Thank you, Justin and Jo, for the delicious dinner and for introducing us to acai.
After we ate we walked down to the town center of Aguada. Ziggy and Coco played on the square while Justin and Jo did a little Christmas shopping in the farmacia (pharmacy) across the street. Justin and Jo then walked home and we drove the kids home so we could hide some of the Christmas presents we bought at Home Depot. Mark and I are learning the lay of the land here and just having a relaxed time with Coco and Ziggy. Tomorrow is Ziggy’s last day of school, so we will get to spend more time with him after that. And most of Justin’s work will wind down after Friday. So the weekend and next week look like a perfect time to be here. I’m sure the time is going to pass too quickly, but we will do our best to enjoy each and every minute.
