Day 63, Year 10: Congratulations, Mike and Linda

Mike and Linda are good friends from Concord, New Hampshire. Sunday, August 3, they left Saratoga, New York, headed for the Florida Keys on their bicycles. They sold absolutely everything they own and took off for their new life adventure. And today, 131 days later, they arrived in Islamorada in the Keys. Congratulations, Mike and Linda! This completes the first leg of their bike touring journey which they hope will eventually take them all around the world. But for now it is time to stop for a month, visit with their son Garrett, and celebrate their accomplishment to date.

Today was one of those days when things just didn’t go as planned. Mark and Lee had a good day working on Sea Turtle and finished the wind generator installation. But my day had some twists and turns. I headed to Patsy and Joe’s early to make granola and do some other cooking. I got the granola started and then Patsy returned from getting her hair done with a very flat tire with rubber that was separated all around. Luckily she was safe, but that tire was definitely done for. Joe called AAA to have them come put the spare on so we could take the car in and get new tires. While we were waiting, I miraculously stopped up the garbage disposal and we had to call Mark to come help with that issue. I put the granola making on hold, and while Joe stayed home to wait for Mark and assist with the garbage disposal repair, Patsy and I headed to Walmart to get two new tires. We had LOTS of time to shop around while waiting for the tires and by the time we got home, it was time for me to get back to Windbird to fix dinner as Roger and Jane Bonner were coming in less than hour. Roger and Jane are friends that live in Connecticut in the summer and here in the winter. We met them here two years ago and this past summer they visited us by boat in Quissett Harbor. We had a great evening together that was punctuated by the key lime pie they brought. It was delicious.
Just before he went to bed, Mark shared the Mass General radiology report he received today detailing his recent scan. We were even more encouraged as it very specifically compares the size of cancerous masses found in the end of September scan to the size of the same masses as seen in last week’s scan. And in every case, there is a significant reduction in size. One spot in the liver cannot even be seen now. Hallelujah!
