Day 56, Year 10: A Little Planning, A Little Cleaning
Date: Friday, December 5, 2014
Weather: Overcast, High in the mid-60’s F
Location: R Dock, Lightkeepers Marina, Little River, SC
After a bit of a slow start due the late night, we had breakfast and talked to friends Alan and Helaine Kanegsberg from Concord. They are hoping to sail with us from Ft. Lauderdale around to the west coast of Florida in February. We know we are going to do this, but we haven’t done detailed planning as yet. Their phone call prompted us to get started on that planning and that took most of the morning. In all spare moments, we continued working on Christmas shopping on Amazon. Slow, ever so slowly, we are finding and ordering the ‘just right’ gifts for everyone.
In the early afternoon, I got a call from Lee. He was out on the dock cleaning his dinghy and he had some questions. Since we had not been out of the boat since early morning, he thought we weren’t here. But just when he called, I was getting ready to go out and clean our dinghy. So we met on the dock and compared notes. I gave him what I consider the best cleaning agent for hypalon dinghies (a product from Nautical Ease) and he made good progress while I did the same on our dinghy. But somewhere in the process, he decided to combine Nautical Ease Spray Boat Cleaner with Magic Eraser. He sprayed on the cleaner and then rubbed with the eraser. Magic did happen! This combo cleaned his dinghy better than anything I have ever seen. Of course, we have no idea if using Magic Eraser on the hypalon is safe for the hypalon, but the bottom of his dinghy tubes are really sparkling clean. I must admit that I was a bit jealous since my dinghy didn’t look quite as good. But since I was finished cleaning, I went ahead and sprayed on the UV protectorant and will try the winning combo the next time I clean the dinghy.
We got a call from Patsy and Joe letting us know that a big, heavy package had arrived for us (Lee and Lynda’s inverter), as well as a packet of our mail forwarded from Heather. We headed to their house to pick up the packages and once we arrived, Patsy invited us to dinner. What a treat. She had a mac and cheese casserole with the left-over ham from Thanksgiving in the oven. We added broccoli and had a great dinner. Thank you, Patsy.
