It wasn’t hot today, but it wasn’t cold. It was just warm enough to work outside without a jacket, and that made my work today much easier. It was a day for cleaning everything in sight with the new miracle product that my brother-in-law discovered a couple of weeks ago called Jomax. I have found it to be an incredible cleaner. I’m not sure why it works so well on mildew, but it does. The active ingredient is o-phenylphenol. You mix it with water and Clorox beach, spray it on with a garden sprayer, and literally watch heavy black mildew drip away. You let it sit for a couple of minutes, spray with a hose, and those ugly little dots of mildew are just gone—no scrubbing needed. Today I cleaned cockpit cushions covered in Sunbrella that had mildew spots that I have never been able to get rid of using Clorox. Not all the spots are gone, but most are. Amazing. I also sprayed the anchor rode for our stern anchor, the inside bottom of the dinghy, and a few items from inside the boat. Then I attacked the storage locker on the back deck that houses our two 20-pound propane tanks, our stern anchor rode and chain, the dinghy gas tank, air pumps for inflating the dinghy and kayak, and other miscellaneous things that constantly get mildew on them. After emptying the locker, I vacuumed it out, scraped all the loose paint, sanded it, and then put Jomax to work. This product works great for paint preparation, so tomorrow we’ll paint the locker. I just can’t say enough for this project. It makes cleaning so easy.

In the late afternoon, we had a Skype video call with Heather and gang. Ollie was just waking up from a late nap and was in no mood to talk, but Sam and Jonah showed us some of their new books purchased at the school book fair this week. Jonah talked about his study of Egypt at school, explaining to us that mummies were wrapped in linen. Here’s a great photo of Jonah and fellow classmate and next door neighbor Molly from the school website.

Sam is really into Minecraft and got a set of Minecraft books at the book fair. He talked about what he is doing in cub scouts and told me that his Grammie Goldstone is coming to visit for a few days. The second graders performed a concert this week and here’s a picture of Sam on stage.

We didn’t talk to Ziggy and Coco today, but we read on Jo’s Facebook that the whole family attended a Taino areyto ceremony at Ziggy’s school. The Tainos are native people of the Caribbean and their various celebrations of life were often referred to as areitos. Jo posted some photos of Ziggy’s school event on Facebook as well. It is easy to spot Ziggy. He is the little Taino with white hair.

We ended our day having Friday night pizza at Tony’s with Patsy and Jo and friends Brian and Judy. Years ago, Patsy and Joe ‘adopted’ Brian as a son. He and Judy moved to this area a few years ago, but tomorrow they are moving back to the Charlotte area. Patsy and Joe are going to miss them so very much, but tonight we focused on celebrating their move. Brian and Judy, we will miss you.
