Day 40, Year 10: Relaxed Day
Date: Wednesday, November 19, 2014
Weather: Deep Freeze Overnight, High in the low-50’s Today
Location: R Dock, Lightkeepers Marina, Little River, SC
It was very cold overnight and we woke up to dripping hatches and ice on the dock. When it is very cold outside and we heat inside, the hatches sweat causing the dripping. But despite the cold and the associated problems, we had a relaxed day. We spent the morning on Sea Turtle, Lee and Lynda’s boat, talking about . . . you guessed it . . . boats. Then Lynda went to get her hair cut, Mark and Lee went shopping at West Marine, again, and I did laundry. We didn’t get a lot done today, but we just enjoyed life while doing what we did. Then tonight we went to a performance of The Long Bay Symphony Youth Orchestra at Myrtle Beach High School with Lee and Lynda. It has been years since Mark and I have been to a symphony concert and we really enjoyed it. It brought back memories of the days when Heather and Justin played violin. On the way home from the concert, we stopped to have dessert and then visited with Lee and Lynda before returning to Windbird. We left the heaters on low while we were out tonight, and since the temp was already below freezing, we were afraid the boat was going to be cold. But we were pleasantly surprised by warm air when we opened the companionway hatch. Tonight we are trying an experiment. We borrowed a dehumidifier and a Mr. Heater propane heater from Lee and Lynda. We are using both tonight to see just how warm the Mr. Heater keeps the boat and to see if the dehumidifier can keep the drips at bay. Tomorrow we’ll ratchet up the work time a bit and try to get some of the huge list of jobs checked off.
