Day 24, Year 10: Headed to Puerto Rico for Christmas
Date: Monday, November 3, 2014
Weather: Sunny, Warming Up After a Frosty Night
Location: R Dock, Lightkeepers Marina, Little River, SC

Today was a day of many decisions, the most important of which was to fly to Puerto Rico to spend Christmas with Justin, Jo, Ziggy, and Coco! We made our reservations and will be leaving here on December 15 and returning on December 26. That decision then dictated our sailing departure date from here headed to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. If Mark can arrange to have a cancer treatment on Monday, December 29, we will sail away from Little River on Tuesday the 30th. If the weather permits, we will head outside to either Charleston, SC, or on to Cumberland Island, Georgia. If the weather is crappy, we will head down the Intracoastal. The departure date could be delayed one day if Mark has to stick with the Tuesday treatment schedule, but one way or the other, we will be headed to Florida before New Year’s Day and arrive in Fort Lauderdale by the middle of January. We also made a decision to do a road trip to Nashville, Tennessee before Thanksgiving. If Joe is up to it, we will travel with Patsy and Joe to go visit with their daughter Janet. Mark and I have never been to Nashville and this should be a perfect time of year for visiting there. So we have lots of travel plans in the next few weeks.

The not so exciting part of the day was spent dealing with our failing refrigeration unit. We have been babying it for months waiting to get here to have a guy named Rico work on it. He came last week, adjusted the pressure, and it completely stopped cooling. I have been using the top of the freezer as a make-shift refrigerator since then, but today he returned and he and Mark worked together all afternoon. They still don’t have the problem pinned down. Rico left gauges attached to the compressor and Mark thinks those readings indicate that we have a leak in the system ‘somewhere’. Hopefully the work tomorrow will pin down the problem.
