Day 19, Year 10: Boat Projects
Date: Wednesday, October 29, 2014
Weather: Hazy and Sunny Day, High in the 80’s
Location: R Dock, Lightkeepers Marina, Little River, SC

I had a delightful day and did almost nothing. But I’m told you need that kind of day once in a while. I drove my niece Jennifer to Wilmington (an hour north of here) so she could pick up her car and then I drove back to Patsy and Joe’s. I had intended to do some painting, but we talked, did some internet research about Joe’s infection, ordered some furniture for the sunroom, and all of a sudden it was time for me to return to Windbird. Mark stayed on Windbird today to work on boat projects, but at 3 pm we were supposed to pick up the dodger (canvas that covers the forward part of the cockpit). I was only a few minutes late picking him up, but as soon as we started driving toward the canvas repair shop we got a call—not ready. We kept driving and did a little shopping and by the time we got home, we got another call telling us the dodger was ready. Mark went to get it and when he returned we installed it. So now if it rains tonight as predicted, the cockpit will stay dry. The canvas shop did a great job and the price was right. There was no place on Cape Cod that we could find to get this kind of work done, so we are very happy to be in a place where things can be repaired at a sensible cost. I’m so glad we were pleased with the quality of work as we are going to have to use their services again. As we installed the dodger, one of the zippers on the bimini (the next piece of canvas that covers the remainder of the cockpit) started to rip out. So when we get another dry spell, we’ll remove the bimini and take it in for repairs.

So (check), the dodger is repaired and re-installed.
And (check), the bottom of the dinghy has a new coat of paint.
And (check), Mark did a current inventory of all of our filters and ordered ones we need.

Tomorrow I really will go to Patsy and Joe’s to continue painting the white deck railing and Mark will stay on Windbird and continue working on boat projects. My brother-in-law Joe is still fighting a terrible infection and after a week on antibiotics, he is not feeling a whole lot better. There has been some improvement, but he still feels just awful. He’s going to call the doctor tomorrow morning and explain the situation to see if this slow progress is normal with this type of infection. Sure hope he’s feeling better soon.
