Day 16, Year 10: Went Sailing
Date: Sunday, October 26, 2014
Weather: Beautiful Day, Winds SE 10
Location: R Dock, Lightkeepers Marina, Little River, SC

We went sailing on Sea Turtle today. That is the name of Lee and Lynda Kaufman’s 36-foot Island Packet Estero. It was a beautiful day and once we got out of the waterway, the winds increased to 7, then 8, then 9, then 10+ knots and we had a delightful sail. It was a real treat to go out on someone else’s boat and just relax. We saw dolphins at one point, but of course, they never surfaced again once I was ready with the camera. As we sailed out we were on a perfect course for heading to Puerto Rico. It’s only 10-14 days away! But we restrained ourselves and eventually turned around and headed back to the Little River Inlet. Thank you, Lee and Lynda, for a delightful day out on the water.

Heather called just after we arrived back at the dock and when we returned to Windbird we had a Skype video call with the Goldstones. As always, we really enjoyed ‘seeing’ them via Skype. Sam and Jonah shared some of the highlights of their weekend, and when Heather asked Ollie to share what his favorite weekend activity, he said that it was staying overnight on the boat. I think he had his weekends a bit mixed up, but it brought tears to my eyes. We also talked to our friends Lynne and Ed Kirwin this evening. We sailed across the Indian Ocean with Ed and Lynne and they are now in Ft. Lauderdale working on Constance, getting her ready for another winter in the Bahamas. Ed and Lynne both had birthdays this past week, so we got to wish them a belated happy birthday. We are thinking more and more that once we get to Ft. Lauderdale that we will try to get over to the Bahamas for a few weeks. If we do that, we’ll certainly try to hook up with Ed and Lynne. It would be such great fun to be in an anchorage with them once again and it would be worth the trip just to get invited aboard Constance for one of Lynne’s Mexican dinners with homemade taco shells! And while I’m on the topic of good friends, I’ll mention that Chris and Geoff of Shambala emailed yesterday to say that they should have arrived in Norfolk this morning after a bit of a rough trip south from Nova Scotia. They will head down the waterway to Beaufort and we hope to see them there before they fly off to France. The Lady M, the 210-foot mega yacht that they crewed aboard last year, is spending the winter on the southern coast of France and they have been invited to ‘babysit’ the Lady M while the regular crew gets some time off. What a wonderful opportunity for them.

Good news—My brother-in-law Joe is feeling much better. Evidently the high-powered antibiotics that he has been taking for his infection are working. Hurray, hurray, hurray!
