Day 14, Year 10: Attacking Patsy and Joe’s Back Deck
Date: Friday, October 24, 2014
Weather: More Sunshine and Warmth
Location: R Dock, Lightkeepers Marina, Little River, SC

I feel like I have been in a battle, thus the choice of words “attacking Patsy and Joe’s back deck.” I guess going up and down and up and down the stairs from deck level to ground level accounts for my sore muscles, but in the end I won the battle and accomplished the task. Mark was able to help me move furniture and put screens back in the nine windows on the sun porch. But then I had to send him inside. Skin sensitivity to cleaning agents and to the sun is a side-effect of his current cancer treatment, so I preferred to work alone. I was using a new ‘magic’ cleaner that Joe discovered at the hardware store a couple of days ago. It is called Jomax and you mix it with water and Clorox and spray away mold and mildew. It works wonders, but the garden sprayer I was using was not wonderful. The hose kept coming out of the sprayer and when that happened I would quickly lose a lot of the cleaning agent. And when it did work, it was a pitifully tiny spray. But rather than take time out to go buy a new one, I just learned to work with it. I think my main problem was that I didn’t have Joe as my Director. He felt worse today than yesterday, especially after a tumble on the bathroom floor last night. So today he slept. He should start feeling a little better by Sunday, Monday at the latest. And if not, then we’ll revisit the doctor. But hopefully modern medicine will do its thing and turn this infection around. Tomorrow is deck painting day. Mark and Patsy will help and we’ll try to get all of the white railings around the deck painted. Then on Sunday, Mark and I will take a break and go sailing with Lee and Lynda. We’ll then return to paint the deck floor on Monday. So no exciting tales to tell tonight . . . just a work-a-day report.
