Day 126, Year 10: Lunch with the Kanegsbergs
Date: Friday, February 13, 2015
Weather: Mostly Sunny, High Temp in the 60’s F (40’s tonight)
Location: Fort Myers Beach Mooring Field
Our day started off better than it ended, but at least the middle part of the day was great. We got up early and went to shore to do the laundry, take showers, and to go to the Saturday morning fruit and veggie market. The laundry went smoothly, the marina restrooms were clean with plenty of hot water, and the market was good. It is much smaller than the Saturday morning market in West Palm Beach and there were no organic farm stands, but there was no lack of produce. Fresh corn-on-the-cob was just too tempting, so we had that for dinner tonight. Yummy! Unfortunately the beautiful strawberries were all looks and no taste. By 10:30 am we were back on Windbird to deliver the clean clothes and to give Mark a few minutes to put back up our life lines. Then we were off again, this time to catch a bus to the Bell Tower Shoppes in Fort Myers to meet Alan and Helaine Kanegsberg for lunch. Actually we had to take two busses. It took an hour and a half, but finally we made it. Alan and Helaine drove down from Punta Gorda where they are visiting with friends. We walked around to check out the various possibilities for lunch and decided to eat at Cru. Thank you, Alan and Helaine, for a lovely lunch. It was definitely warmer here today than it was back in Concord, New Hampshire, but it was a chilly day for this part of the world. Alan and Helaine are enjoying their Florida visit, but it would be nice if the weather could warm up just a tad. The bus trip home was the low point of the day. We had Friday the 13th bad luck as the 3:10 pm bus didn’t show up until almost 4 o’clock. It was 5:30 pm by the time we got back to Windbird. Even with Friday afternoon traffic, Alan and Helaine made it back to Punta Gorda much quicker than we made it to Windbird. And when we got back we went over to Sea Turtle to discuss our return trip options with Lee and Lynda. The weather is giving us fits and no scenario gets us back to the east coast without a couple of days of rough conditions. At least that’s how it looks right now. But we really need to get back so we can head to the Bahamas. Therefore, we are just going to leave tomorrow morning and decide as the day goes on whether or not to stop in Naples for the night or to sail south of Marco and just drop the anchor close to shore. There are no protected anchorages in that area that we can get into because of our depth. We will then proceed one day at a time, adjusting daily destinations to match the weather.
