Day 273, Year 10: Aquarium Visit and Dinner on Shambala
Date: Friday, July 10, 2015
Weather: Beautiful Day; Temp in the 70’s F
Location: Quissett Harbor, Falmouth, MA

First and foremost, Happy Birthday to my sister Patsy! We’ve been thinking of you all day and hope you had a happy one.

Mark and I took separate paths today. I went to Woods Hole with the boys and we visited the Woods Hole Science Aquarium. This little gem is operated by NOAA’s National Marine Fisheries Service, in partnership with the Marine Biological Lab. And it boasts of being the country’s oldest marine aquarium. It was established 130 years ago and is still going strong. Admission is free and normally there is a seal show at 11 am and 4 pm every day. Unfortunately this morning the museum’s seals, Lucille and Bumper, were having their pool cleaned. Thus, no show today. But there was plenty else to enjoy. Sam and I loved seeing the baby Chain Dogfish. Jonah’s favorite today was a preserved octopus in a jar. And Ollie liked watching the Lionfish. He was the one that really wanted to visit the aquarium to see the seals, but he took the news of ‘no seal show today’ in stride. Even though this aquarium is a tiny one, I could go there once a week all summer and always find something new to keep my interest. After the aquarium, we walked down the main street in Woods Hole, walked further had lunch in the waterside park. We drove to Peterson Farm to see how much this spring’s lambs have grown. And they are almost as big as their mothers.

150710 Day 273a Cape Cod, USA–Woods Hole Aquarium

We all went back to Woods Hole to drop Sam off for his School of Science class and then we went to the park to play until Granddad arrived to pick us up. Mark spent his morning getting the old fuel out of our dinghy fuel can and filtering it through. He now thinks he can put the old Yamaha motor back on the dinghy. We will then take the dinghy out with us tomorrow and run it hard to make sure the recent repairs were good. Tonight we had dinner at Chris and Geoff’s again. They will be leaving for Nova Scotia tomorrow morning, so tonight we said our farewells. Heather and gang will arrive in the morning and we will go out for a little fishing expedition. Never a dull moment here.
