Today was another soccer Saturday. Sam’s travel team played this afternoon and will play again tomorrow. Tomorrow afternoon’s make-up game will end the travel team’s season. Jonah and Ollie play recreational soccer which continues for two more Saturdays. Then we’ll have a break from organized soccer until spring. But soccer goes on in the front and backyards of the Goldstone’s, even in the dead of winter with snow on the ground. Today was not a winning day for either Jonah or Sam’s teams and Ollie did even go to his game this morning. But he played on the sidelines of Jonah’s game.03-ollie-the-soccer-man He loves to play, but he really doesn’t like playing against kids he doesn’t know and having people who don’t know him watch him play. None of us see any reason to push that, so we’ll just try again next year. But even though Jonah and Sam’s teams didn’t win, both boys played great games. Jonah alternates between goalie and forward,01-jonah-scrambles-as-goalie whereas Sam plays defense.02-sam-rt-with-ethan-in-foreground Near the end of Sam’s game, a kid from the other team kicked the ball in the air. Sam was standing close to him and got hit in the head with the ball. Since soccer balls are supposed to stay on the ground, Sam’s reaction was classic. He threw up his hands and it looked like he was saying, “What the heck!” Well, hopefully it was ‘heck’ that he said. I was sitting near people from the other team and a few of the dads got a chuckle out of Sam’s reaction and said that they thought they would react the same way in that situation. I saw Sam briefly at the end of the game and he said he was okay. But I always hate to see kids get hit in the head with a ball at close range.

Tonight is a camp out night for Jonah’s Scout troop. Heather took Ollie and Jonah to the afternoon Scout activities right after Jonah’s game and then Sam and Jed joined them after Sam’s soccer game. It is a family camp out, so Jed is staying with Ollie, Jonah, and Sam, but Heather decided ahead of time that she was not staying. She runs in the Cape Cod Marathon in the morning and decided that a good night’s sleep was in order. Tomorrow’s marathon is a relay for Heather’s team and her part of the run doesn’t start until about 10:30 am. The plan is for Jed and boys to get home in time to drop her off and then they will drive to Woods Hole to await her arrival there. Jed will man the water stop right in front of Ollie’s school and the boys will play on the playground. I’ll drive down to see Heather finish her portion of the race. Then we’ll all drive back to downtown Falmouth to see the end of the race. Heather’s relay team is having a post-race party so Heather will take Jonah and Ollie to that while Sam and Jed are back on the soccer field. While they are partying and playing soccer, I’ll head back home to fix dinner for all of us. All of this activity makes my head spin just to write about it! And speaking of making my head spin, I went to a Zumba class at the gym this morning. The instructor was VERY enthusiastic and all of the other women were regulars. I have never been to Zumba class and had to work hard to just barely follow along. Doing Y-M-C-A near the end, over and over with weights, almost did me in, but I made it.
