Life After Windbird, Day 118: A Little Delay, but On the Way Soon
Date: Thursday, December 8, 2016
Weather: Partly Sunny; High Temp 47, Low 30 degrees F
Location: At Harpoon I.P.A. in Terminal A, Logan Airport, Boston, MA

I’m sitting at the Harpoon I.P.A. bar in Terminal A at Logan Airport. While I was on the bus from Cape Cod to Logan, I got an email from Southwest alerting me that my flight would be three hours delayed. Three hours!!! When I got here, I went to the desk and they explained that there were “technical difficulties” and that the only way to get to Nashville tonight was to wait for a plane to come from San Antonio which hadn’t even taken off yet. Okay. Not much you can do but relax into an evening of reading (and drinking beer) at the airport. But first things first, I needed to find something to eat. I decided to head to the gate and look in that area for something. Bad idea. First, it is a VERY LONG way from security check-in to the Gate 18 from where I will depart. There was an escalator down, two long automated runways, and one escalator back up. And when I got there, there was nothing but fast food restaurants, a bar with no food, and a wine bar with food and no beer. So, I headed all the way back and found a place where I could get a salad, chili, and beer. I read my way through dinner and beer, and now I am back near the gate from which I hope to depart at 9:20 pm. The only thing here is a Harpoon I.P.A bar—not a lover of IPA or Harpoon—but the bartender found something for me that works. I still have an hour and a half plus a little to departure, but I can read my way through that time and the flight. I feel terrible that my niece Janet will have to come to airport so late to pick me up, but she insists. I know I’d do the same for her, but it is still no fun. Just thankful she is all in for doing so. Can’t wait to see my sister and brother-in-law and have a week of visiting with them.
