Date: Friday, December 26, 2025
Weather: A Little More Snow, Beautiful, Cold; High Temp 27, Low 7 degrees F
Location: At Home on Dover Road in Boothbay, Maine

Merry Christmas to all! I had an absolutely delightful Christmas here in Boothbay at Jed’s mother’s seasonal home in Boothbay. I know that Jed’s mother Marti loves sharing our grandchildren for Christmas as much as I do. I think the beautiful, new fallen snow, plus the fact that we didn’t have electricity until this afternoon, made this Christmas a little challenging, but very special. Driving here on roads that were safe and dry, but surrounded by trees laden with snow, was like driving through a winter wonderland. I always dream of having a white Christmas, and this year the dream came true. Not having electricity was a little inconvenient, but I think it made us all more grateful for the comfortable lives we live, while giving us an opportunity to see how living more simply has a really positive side to it. But as Heather said, after 32 hours without electricity, she was very thankful for flush toilets!

With nine of us, myself, Heather, Jed, Sam, Jonah, Ollie, Jed’s brother Toby and his significant other Stephanie, and Jed’s mother Marti, it took us all morning to do the complete stocking routine, and then open way too many presents. I got every single thing on my list to Santa. I had asked for a portable speaker to listen to the news and music at home, as well as everything it takes to listen to podcasts when I am driving my rather dated, but beloved Honda Fit. Plus, I asked for a Yeta travel mug ,and I got that as well. My children and grandchildren welcomed me into the 21st century with everything from a portable JBL speaker to Bluetooth capability for the car. And sometime during the present opening frenzy, the electricity was restored. There were louds cheers and Heather quickly conjured up mimosas so we could toast to the workmen who worked through Christmas Eve and Christmas day to get this done.

Then late this afternoon we walked down to the farmhouse to have Christmas dinner at John and Becky’s. John is Jed’s uncle and he prepared a feast for 13 of us—our nine, John and Becky, a good friend of Becky’s, and one of Jed’s cousins. As we stuffed ourselves with roast beef, green beans, mashed potatoes, and more, we reminisced about Christmases past. It was the perfect way to end a perfect Christmas day.
