2024 Life Logs, Day 311: Boston to Charlotte

It was a very long day getting from Boston to Charlotte to visit with my sister Patsy. The first leg of the trip went smoothly. I was up at 6 am, walked Shadow, and headed to the Braintree Park and Ride near Boston where I left my car and took the Logan Express to the airport. The airport was quiet and I was at my gate by 9:30 am. An hour later we boarded, but no sooner than I sat down the pilot announced that there was a mechanical issue and that we would deplane and wait until 8 pm for another plane. He explained that because it is the beginning of a long weekend, other flights had little or no room, so they would wait until the end of the day to get another plane. Because I always fly Economy and board last to a seat assigned to me. Luckily, I was in row 8 and was one of the first in line to talk to an agent. She gave me a stand-by boarding pass for the next flight at noon but explained that there was almost a zero chance of getting on that flight. But with nothing to lose, I went to the gate for that flight and waited. I would have been rolling my carry on, but because I was one of the last to board, my carry on became a checked bag. So at least I didn’t have to deal with the carry on. I didn’t get on that flight and was given a boarding pass for the next flight at 5 pm. Success. I got on that flight, arrived in Charlotte just after 7 pm, but it was almost 8:30 pm before I found my checked bag. I was told it was on that flight, but after an hour’s wait and no bag, I started inquiring. It was in a storage room where it had been all day. I think it made it on the noon flight.
Waiting all day in an airport is surprisingly exhausting. And it is now late. By the time I got my bag, went to get the rental car, and drove north from Charlotte to Mooresville, it was 10:30 pm when I arrived here. But my sister was still up waiting for me and now it is almost midnight. Tomorrow is busy day for me, so now it off to the recliner for a night’s sleep.
