2024 Life Logs, Day 281: Book Club and My Sister’s Move
Date: Tuesday, October 8, 2024
Weather: Mostly Sunny; High Temp 63, Low 49 degrees F
Location: At Home on Lakeview Avenue, Falmouth, MA

Today I hosted my book club for a discussion about Abraham Verghese’s The Covenant of Water. Later in the afternoon, I picked Ollie up from soccer practice and took him to his saxophone lesson. While he was in his lesson, I did a run to the grocery store to get some things I needed for dinner tomorrow night. Kevin and Claire are arriving tomorrow afternoon and will be here until Sunday. Tonight, I did some meal prep for tomorrow and got ready for my Encore Board meeting tomorrow. And all through the day and evening I was monitoring from afar my sister Patsy’s move from rehab back to her assisted living facility. I have companions with her 12 hours a day starting today, but tonight I could not reach her by phone. So now I think maybe I should have had someone with her overnight. Supposedly the assisted living facility med techs will check on her every two hours and all will be fine, but I worry.

I have been so busy that I haven’t followed the progress of Hurricane Milton closely, but closely enough to be very worried about all of Mark’s family in Lee County, Florida. Although the storm projection looks like it will make landfall in Tampa, north of the Fort Myers area, I read that much of the Fort Myers, Bonita Springs, and Cape Coral areas where Marks’ family lives, have been ordered to evacuate because of the possible life-threatening storm surge. The warnings I read actually said that if you live in these areas and don’t evacuate, you won’t survive. The officials are not mincing words on this one. So unbelievably scary.
