Today was a day of beaches and marshes . . . and strong winds. Justin, Jo, Ziggy, and Coco all woke up much earlier than expected, so Coco and Ziggy went with me when I left to go start another day of Camp Oma with the Goldpebbles. So this morning it was Camp Oma with the Fabulous Five. The cousins were excited to see each other, and they played together until time to leave for Menauhant Beach for Jonah’s swim lesson. It wasn’t until we got there that we realized just how windy a day we were experiencing. The wind was blowing white capped waves into the beach and all of the kids enjoyed it. Jonah’s class was really just jumping and playing the water as swimming was very difficult. But Sam and Ziggy attacked the waves and were successful in swimming when needed. Coco and Ollie stayed close to the shore, jumping waves and diving in. It was a bit crazy trying to keep my eyes on all four, but everyone following directions and Ziggy and Sam were good about coming in once they got out too far. Since Jonah was in class, I didn’t need to worry about him. But once he was done, all five were in the water for a bit. Then Coco and Ollie decided it was time to play in the sand. We didn’t stay for Ollie’s 11 am class, but instead headed to home for lunch. There was a water battle with fresh water to wash some of the salt off and then the focus went from beach to marsh as they played on the dock catching small shrimp. Then in mid-afternoon we headed to Wood Neck Beach to ride the outgoing tide in Lazy River. We spent most of the afternoon walking all the way into the marsh where, on the way, we enjoyed finding a big horseshoe crab and the molted shells of small ones. Despite the fact that walking against the tide isn’t easy, we all enjoyed the challenge. Then it was home for a sushi dinner and a rock band ‘performance’ by Sam, Jonah, and Ziggy. Justin tried playing the drums, but decided he’d leave that to Sam. Tomorrow morning we will head to the beach for swim lessons and then I think we’ll stay close to home, maybe trying a little kayaking and just hanging out together.
