2026 Life Logs, Day 296: Change of Plans

Weather: Sunny and Windy; High Temp 58, Low 44 degrees F
Location: At Home with My Shadow, Falmouth, MA
I had no specific plans for the upcoming weekend other than Noon at Noonan each day to remind people to vote. But after I got home from Noon at Noonan today, I got a text from Heather saying she was headed to Vermont this weekend to visit with Sam and I decided to go with her. Sam has their second car and Jed needs a car here, so she was going to rent a car to drive to Vermont. Why should she do that when I could go with her and drive my car? So, we put that plan in motion. I wanted to make lasagna for us to have for dinner while visiting Sam. That way he would have leftovers to pack for lunches next week. Sam had also asked his mom if she could bring more of Oma’s granola clusters that I sent with him last week. I made a quick trip to the grocery store and started the lasagna and the granola clusters. But if I was going to be gone until Monday, I needed to go visit my sister this afternoon. I had planned to go tomorrow and change her Dexcom glucose sensor as the new shipment was due to arrive this afternoon. When it had not arrived by 3:30 pm, I decided to put the lasagna on hold and go and disconnect her current sensor. I will replace it on Monday when I return. Her blood glucose numbers have been the same for about two weeks now, so daily monitoring is not as crucial right now. But I knew I would have to go het her phone and bring it home for the weekend for fear that it would alarm all weekend once the current sensor expires around 2 pm tomorrow. Everyone will be happier if I just disconnect her for a few days. I had a nice visit with Patsy, disconnected the sensor, and then returned home to continue getting ready for the impromptu trip to Vermont.
Heather had invited me over for dinner, so I finished making the lasagna sauce and took it and the noodles that I had already boiled. Heather could make the bechamel sauce while the meat sauce was simmering, and we could assemble it after dinner. We did that and then I returned home to bake the lasagna and make granola clusters. My kitchen is a bit of a mess, but food is ready to go!
