Today was a warm (warm in South Carolina) Presidential Inauguration Day, Martin Luther King Day, and the birthday of our oldest grandchild, Sam. He was officially six years old today and should be extremely honored to share this day with our President and with Dr. Martin Luther King. Happy Birthday, Sam. But if we go back those six years, we remember that it was a very cold, very snowy Sunday morning when he was born. We had flown home from New Zealand after our first full year of cruising and we were so happy to be here for his birth. He was not quite a month old when we had to fly back to New Zealand, but we kept in touch via Skype video and he seemed to know us when we came home the next year. Every grandchild is very special, each in a different way. But the first one always keeps that status.
We went to my sister’s this morning to watch the inauguration festivities on television. Patsy and Joe had doctor appointments and didn’t return until the inaugural speech had ended. We had lunch and then decided to go to the cinema to see Zero Dark Thirty. As you probably know this is a film about the decade-long search for Osama bin Laden. After the movie, we hurried home to watch the end of the inaugural parade and the beginning of the inaugural balls. So we saw more television and video today than we normally see in a whole year and we enjoyed it all.
We got a call this morning from a couple we met on a boat in South Africa, Chris and Geoff of Shambala. They are from Australia but are currently in Beaufort, NC, doing work on the boat. We will plan a trip up to see them sometime next week. But tomorrow it is back to work. Mark has lots of phone calls to make and I still have loads of photos from Year 1 to be named and attached to our Year 1 travel logs.
