Day 64, Year 8: On the Twelfth Day of Christmas
Date: Sunday, January 6, 2013
Weather: Partly Sunny; Daytime Temp in the Low 40’s F
Location: Visiting with Heather and Jed, East Falmouth, MA
On the twelfth day of Christmas, I didn’t have any epiphanies (life changing
revelations) and my true love didn’t give me twelve drummers drumming.
Maybe next year. It is on this day that Christians celebrate the
“manifestation of Christ to the gentiles in the persons of the Magi”-the the
name of Epiphany. I don’t observe this day in the religious sense, but I
always use the twelfth day to signify the end of the holiday season. Today
we celebrated by having another relaxing day with the grandkids. Tonight we
had dinner at the home of Bruce and Jane Wooden, good friends here in
Falmouth. Olivia and Terry White were there as well and we had a delightful
evening and delicious dinner. We had a pork roast with sauerkraut and
roasted carrots. We didn’t have sauerkraut on New Year’s Day as is custom,
so by having it tonight I now feel like I am back on track for the New Year.
I’m slowly, very slowly adjusting to the idea that we will not be headed to
the Bahamas next week. I’m going to have to start planning for next year,
but in the meantime, we are hoping to fly to Florida to spend some time with
Mark’s family. Heather and Jed and boys might meet us there as well, so
I’ll look forward to that and spend the rest of my winter doing what I’ve
wanted to do since returning from our round the world voyage-write about
that adventure. I can’t believe tomorrow is our last day here. The boys
are in both in school tomorrow, so we will spend the day planning for a fun
evening together. We head to Boston by bus on Tuesday morning and fly back
to Myrtle Beach, arriving there at 3:30 in the afternoon.
